The role of psychologists in torture is the major ethical conundrum of our time, overshadowing abortion and the death penalty not in complexity but in relevance to the future of every sentient being. At issue is how technology is allowed to intersect with the most sanctified of all places, the mind. The American Psychological Association is not a monolithic organization, and kudos must go to those who attempted to fight inertia and incompetence from the inside. However, it is prudent to shine a light on how poorly the organization has handed the problem of psychologists playing a major role in the planning and implementation of torture on human beings.
